Random Funnies (funny to me anyway)

Tuuuu-tuuuuu!!!
Beau spits up so much it's ridiculous. The amount of laundry one little guy produces is outrageous.
Today, he got me (and himself) at least 6 times.
Girl vs. Spaghetti. The spaghetti won.

4 months

My sweet boy is 4 months old today! Your doctor's appt was yesterday and you are a growing boy at 14 lbs, 12 oz (49.7%) and 25.3" (68.1%) long. You seem tiny compared to Lainey. In fact, you ARE smaller than your sister but it's because she was huge and you are almost exactly average size. I love it because I feel like I get to hang onto the baby stage a little longer. What you're up to this month: smiling and laughing comes to mind first, followed by blowing raspberries (bubbles). Your favorite thing in the world is to interact with people and get Daddy and I to smile back at you. You are ticklish and love it when Mommy plays with you. You started rolling from your back to your tummy a couple of weeks ago and as soon as we put you down, off rolling you go! You are not a fan of being on your tummy, swaddling or feeding time and sometimes I have to swaddle you to get you to eat so that has been a challenge for both of us.. We finally got rid of that nasty thrush infection and both you and I are a lot happier! You just started playing in your doorway jumper and stationary jumper and love being able to look around the room. You often look at us with an expression that seems to say you are frustrated with being little and not being able to move much. I imagine you'll be up and running the very second you're strong enough. But could you stay my little baby for a just little longer please?

Great weekend

What a weekend!

We all went to our first Mariners game of the season. For Beau, it was his first ever. M's win and Griffey hits a homer. Gotta love that. BBQing and eating dinner outside, playing in the backyard, splashing in the pool, another first for Beau. Enjoying popsicles and lunch after playing, climbing and swimming with a good friend, good neighbors hanging out around the firepit, checking out the new penguin exhibit at the zoo, trying to join the giraffes at the zoo by scaling the fence, and lots lots more I can't remember. What a great weekend! The very best part? I think we finally conquered the nasty thrush!
I'm exhausted!

115

Lainey loves when either Robert or I play Wii and asks at least once a day, "panda?" She usually sits in her chair and cheers us on. When we're done she jumps onto the board and aims the remote at the tv, trying to play. It's so cute to see her standing on the balance board, remote in hand with the wrist strap on her little wrist and feet apart just like we do! Tonight we finally relented and let her play the bowling game. With a little help from Daddy, she bowled a 115! After each game they had to dance of course. I love that they both have the same expressions on their faces.

Big Day

I knew yesterday was going to be significant. After nonstop attempts for days, Beau finally got himself rolled over onto his tummy! The little guy has been trying to roll over CONSTANTLY. I even find him in his crib, swaddled, wiggling around like a worm and getting onto his side. The next few days should be interesting to watch as Beau does not care for tummy time and now all of his work results in his being on his stomach.

About a minute after his big accomplishment.
He already looks older to me now.

The Twos

I noticed on the ticker to the left that Lainey is 2 years, 2 months, 2 weeks and 2 days today and thought it was worth noting. That's gotta be significant right? I have absolutely no faith in my math skills but I think that at 5:56pm today we can add 2 hours to end of that. In my head we will at least! I just might buy a lottery ticket today in her honor.

Not only does my girl like caterpillars, she also likes to hold and play with worms. I love that she's a tomboy that loves cute shoes and wearing ponytails!

Is it Scooter Time yet?

Lainey really likes a neighbor's scooter and in just two days went from being able to just stand on it to knowing how to make it go. Amazing how fast they learn! So of course, Daddy had to get her a scooter and she has been in love with it ever since. She wears the elbow pads around the house on days it's too wet to go outside and never fights me on wearing her helmut.

New things for Beau: He's focused on trying to roll over these days, loves his playmat and is finally strong enough to sit in the Bumbo chair. He's probably been strong enough for awhile, but I didn't want to strain his little neck muscles by putting him it in too soon.

Don't laugh, my Daddy did my hair.

I knew it!

For quite some time I've been contemplating whether or not get window coverings for our downstairs living areas. The back of the house faces east so while we don't get the warm afternoon light, we do get hit in the morning. In my past life before kids, the morning light didn't bother me. After all, I didn't get my lazy butt out of bed til about 8am every morning. These days, I'm often up by 6am and that morning light will burn your retinas if you're standing in the wrong spot and will blind you for a few seconds if you're facing the refrigerator at the moment the sun shines in on the south side of the house. Something has to be done. I have had these curtains since we lived in our last house and they've been hanging on temporary tension rods in the playroom since we moved in. I decided to move them into the kitchen and I really REALLY like the way it looks! They are totally wrong for the window but something is better than nothing right? And now I'm inspired to get something that works a little better.

However motherhood comes to you, it's a miracle. -Valerie Harper

There are a lot of mother's in my thoughts lately. Not just my own, but all the adoptive mothers, first time mothers, birthmothers, and plain old regular mothers. [Just kidding about the last part.] I obviously have a special place in my heart for birthmothers, two in particular. Without them, I would not be celebrating Mother's Day at all. And adoptive mothers are just extra special in my book! I know a couple of first time mothers who have waited a long time and went through a lot in trying to achieve their dream of becoming a mother. I hope they have a very wonderful Mother's Day. There's nothing like your first Mother's Day. This is just my third Mother's Day and it didn't take long for me to see my mother in a whole new light. This motherhood business is not for the faint of heart or those with a weak stomach! It's the hardest thing I've done so far and I know it's not going to get any easier as they get older. But it's all worth it when I get hugs and kisses from Lainey, and smiles and giggles from Beau. Actually, having a partner in all this that supports me 100% is what truly gets me through the day. I know Robert is looking out for me and that we are a team no matter what.
Happy Mother's Day to all Mothers!

Spring finally sprung?

Our first batch of baby robins left the nest this morning. I looked out there this morning and just these two were left in the nest. By lunchtime, they were gone and we have seen them flying around the backyard. Last year there were two sets of babies so hopefully we'll see some more soon. Hopefully summer is on its way soon!

Early (and best) Mother's Day gift so far

Some of my favorite women. I don't know what I'd do without their friendship and support
Today was a good day. I got to have brunch with some friends in the morning and spent the afternoon playing at the park, hanging out with some great neighbors and had dinner outside while the neighborhood kids all played together. We just came in and got Lainey and Beau ready for bed. My eye has been bothering me all day and Lainey caught me rubbing it. Apparently she didn't like me rubbing it and told me, at least I think she told me to stop rubbing it. Then (and this is the mother's day gift part) she grabbed my face, looked at me and said, "My best friend." Twice! I don't think I've ever gotten teary eyed so fast in my life. That is a moment I'll remember forever. Not the sleepless nights or temper tantrums but the moments when our hearts touched. Lainey thinks dandelions are just the best thing ever. Whenever I see them I think about my grandfather. When I was little he used to take the leaves from young dandelions and add them to the other greens in his salad. For years I thought it was just another thing my family did that was a bit odd. That is, until I saw dandelion greens as part of a salad on the menu at a very nice restaurant in Seattle. He was definitely on to something!

Yet another picture of Beau asleep in the stroller. Either parks are boring or the stroller is really comfy. All too soon he'll be running all over the place just like his sister.

Complete!

11:29am: just got off the phone with the judge and attorney is Spokane. Beau is officially our son and our adoption is finalized. At that very moment, Beau had just finished his bottle, it had taken forever for him to eat, and was getting his diaper changed. Now he's busy talking to me. The Reid family is complete at last!!

Playing with new zoom

I love these jeans and shoes and want to be able to look back and remember how little she was.

Lainey showing off. She loves making us laugh. I love being able to get close up shots without having to get right in her face.

As long as she's "reading," I don't care if she sits on the couch all day. But, this is Lainey we're talking about and she doesn't do anything for very long. The girl is always on the move! Lately she evens sings, "I like to move it move it" while on her way to the next activity.
